Living Archive: Blak Resistance and Joy challenges colonial narratives through works that assert Blak sovereignty, cultural belonging, and joy as acts of resistance.

Curated by Munimba-ja’s Blak Creatives—a collective of emerging First Nations artists based on Jinibara and Kabi Kabi Country—the exhibition is the outcome of a professional development program focused on culturally safe collaboration, mentorship, and community-led practice.

In partnership with the City of Moreton Bay gallery team, Blak Creatives curated this show to hold space for kin, honour ancestral strength, and amplify First Nations presence in institutions shaped by colonial exclusion. The exhibition is a celebration of Blak joy, lateral peace, and the enduring legacy of storytellers who continue to carve pathways for future generations.

Featuring works that explore cultural objects, rituals, and connections to Country, the artists reclaim identity and narrative despite the ongoing impacts of diaspora and displacement. Familiar colonial tropes are subverted, with contemporary materials and cultural practice used to reaffirm strength, resilience, and continuity.

This living archive is not just a collection—it is a collective act of remembrance, resistance, and renewal. It is Blak voices giving platform to Blak voices, shaping futures on our own terms.
